Stephen Cowan MD is a board-certified pediatrician with over 30 years of clinical experience working with children.

Dr. Cowan has a subspecialty in Developmental Pediatrics and has developed a unique holistic approach to evaluating and treating children struggling with chronic physical, emotional and cognitive disorders. Considering the child as a reflection of the inter-related forces of family and environment is the central focus of his practice. This approach respects the inseparability of mind, body and spirit and promotes a deeper understanding of what it means to be healthy.

In addition to his practices in Westchester and Manhattan, Dr. Cowan lectures across the United States and internationally.

Dr. Cowan's book, Fire Child, Water Child: How Understanding the Five Types of ADHD Can Help You to Improve Your Child's Self-Esteem & Attention is available now! You can read more about the book here.

This whimsical tale starts with its title character stranded at sea and in need of help from his animal friends: a gorilla, owl, lion, penguin and a peacock who all have their own unique set of skills that work best together. Teaching children how their individual perspective can assist with the success of a group, the book shows parenting in a holistic manner.

Once upon the sky, there were three powers--the Wind, the Rain, and the Sun--each claiming to be the mightier than the others. One day, the powers came upon a shepherd girl fast asleep upon a hill, so they made a bet to see who could make her take her cap off. Who will be the strongest of them all?
